KSHURASYADHARA by Vipin Vijay

Synopsis

The Komaram or the Velichappadu – an oracle of the Hindu tradition in Kerala – is not much known outside the state. He has made a digital video documentary on this oracular tradition. The film probes the collective dimension of ritual performance as well as critiques its contemporary aesthetic functions. The film also inquires into the possible neurological and scientific aspects of trance.

 

About Director

Vipin VIjat is a multiple award winning Indian filmmaker, screenwriter, video artist, film academic and producer, Vipin Vijay’s works are made under strict independent codes and defy any categorization merging film, documentary, essay, and fiction all into one. Egotic World, Hawamahal, Video Game, Chitrasutrametc are his significant works. Apart from widely shown in film festivals like Rotterdam, Karlovy Vary, Oberhausen, etc and art museums like Ullens Centre for Contemporary art (UGCA) Beijing, Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, two of his works have been acquired for permanent archives at the United States Library of Congress. The prestigious Oberhausen International Film Festival, Germany 2015 showcased his works in the form of specially curated retrospective.  He is currently professor and heads the film direction & screenwriting department at the K R Narayanan National Institute of Visual science and Arts, Kerala.The film “Kshurasyadhara”was supported by India Foundation for the Arts under the Arts Research and Documentation programme.
