Uratti is a play in which Adivasis tells their own story, on their own terms. It explains how the civil society in all its manifestations, had exploited the tribal people in a terrible manner. The script of the play was formulated after eight years of research and close interaction with Adivasis in Wayanadu district by its director, Mr. Manoj Kana. Uratti has a cast of 26 tribal people, including men and women from Kambalakkad near Kalpetta. In the Paniya dialect, the word Uratti means wife. This play is centered on the story of a woman, Nanji, performed by Anitha (who was given the Best Actress Award – a historical first for a tribal woman in the State Drama Awards). It has already been staged over 300 times all over the State. Mr. Manoj Kana has won awards for Best Play and Director.
